News | Leeds varsity supports rainbow laces campaign

Rugby players during Wednesday’s Varsity match wore rainbow shoelaces in support of the Right Behind Gay Footballers campaign.

The campaign, which was launched by Stonewall, aims to show support for gay football players and celebrate equality and diversity.

Greg Sturge, Activities Officer at Leeds University Union said “Because of logistics we weren’t able to get laces to every team. However, during consultation all our teams were really supportive of the initiative, and keen to join forces and make a stand against homophobic attitudes in sport”.
