Clubs | Review – Outcross records with Miguel Campbell

Started in 2006 by one of the members of the duo HCB, Outcross records was founded to create innovative underground house productions that would appeal to a new and modern audience. Outcross is now seven years old, and to celebrate this anniversary the founder himself, (who is also the latest addition to the Hot Creations collective) Miguel Campbell headlined a very eagerly awaited night.

Since inviting the interest of Lee Foss and Jamie Jones, the Leeds born Campbell has had a great amount of success in recent years on the back of tracks like ‘Something Special’. As he was in his home town (and Leeds being the birthplace of Outcross) I expected this to be a sell out event, however it seemed like the crowd was predominantly made up of the regulars that usually go out on a weekend. Miguel Puente began the night impressively by playing a diverse set of old and new tracks alike. The quality of Puente’s set was up there with Campbell’s and by the end of the  Mexican DJ and producer’s set the atmosphere inside The Warehouse was stirring and the crowd were moving.

The Warehouse venue in itself is also worth a mentioning. With a Funktion One system in place and a fairly small dance floor, it’s a venue which has clearly been set up with nights like this in mind. However, one disappointing factor from the night was Miguel Campbell’s fairly late set. By half three the majority of the crowd were fatigued and it was beginning to thin out a bit. Despite this, Campbell produced a solid set that was worth the wait. His set also included one of the stand out tracks from last year ‘Rockin Beats’, another big release off Hot Creations. This was greeted with a lively response from the crowd and proved to be a highlight of the night.
