Review: Jungle Jam presents Congo Natty
“You’re always guaranteed a good night when you come here” said a student queuing to get into Mint Warehouse last Friday. This sentence resonates with the majority of those who have ever attended the Jungle, Drum and Base extravaganza that is Jungle Jam.
This time around was no exception. With a line-up that boasted Congo Natty and Benny Page alongside the guarantee of full Funktion-One Sound System, Jungle Jam held its own against Flux, the competition of the evening. The crowd was huge and extremely keen.
Benny Page was without a doubt the highlight of the night. Now part of the legendary Digital Soundboy label, his career has skyrocketed following the release of his ‘Champion Sound’ single earlier this year. The energy in the room on Friday night really reflected this newfound success. Aries, who had the great responsibility of the 1am slot in the Main Room, did a fantastic job of welcoming arrivals and getting everyone pumped up for the rest of the evening. Finally and of course, Congo Natty’s set blew everyone’s minds. Mikail Tafari aka Congo Natty aka X Project aka Rebel MC is not new to Jungle Jam and with experience comes a great deal of knowledge on how to work its’ hyped up crowd.
These three artists meant that the Main Room was definitely the place to be, but if you needed a break from the sweaty mosh pit then the Backyard Room offered up a more chilled vibe with some Garage and Bass. The room upstairs was empty most of the night simply because it could not compete, but at least this gave punters the opportunity for a bit of a breather.
Overall, it is safe to agree that you are always guaranteed a good night at Jungle Jam.
The next Jungle Jam is on the 7th November. Buy tickets from Skiddle.
