Review – Jungle Jam

Friday 2nd October signalled the return of what is undoubtedly the best jungle night in Leeds. Mint Warehouse once again played host to the mighty Jungle Jam and its group of loyal junglists. The sold out night kicked off the season with a monumental line-up, featuring ground shaking, spine tingling sets from some of the best junglists on the scene.

The night started off on a spectacular high with a mighty two hour back to back set from drum and bass geniuses, Dillinja and Goldie, who performed a hair raising, old school jungle set to the eagerly awaiting crowd. At one point during the spine-tingling set Dillinja’s attempt to play one too many songs was shut down swiftly by DnB godfather Goldie who stepped up to the mic for his turn to perform.

Before the pumped up crowd even had a chance to catch their breath, Top Cat, a true pioneer of jungle music, performed an impressive set of his own. Backed up on the mic by his son Don Caesar, a notable DJ and producer in his own right, the dynamic duo did not disappoint. Kenny Ken featuring MC fearless took over from Top Cat, rivalling their counterparts with an intense set of their own. Blasting out notorious jungle anthems like ‘Everyman’ the pair had the revellers jumping all over the place.

Jungle Jam resident, and drum and bass expert, Los Contreras provided the less crammed upstairs room with a smooth set that had them skanking in unison into the early hours of Saturday morning. The backyard featured a massive set from Jungle Jam resident Concordia, who blasted a set so loud it had the walls vibrating.

As always, Jungle Jam pulled out all the stops to ensure their loyal junglists had a season opener that won’t be forgotten in a hurry. Their next night will be on November 6th, so If you have plans, cancel them. With promises of another massive line-up, this will be a night you’re not gonna want to miss.
