Clubs | Review – Deep Fever opening party

A little while back, on the 8th of October, Leeds saw the return of Deep Fever. A strictly house, techno and disco event that has previously set it’s crosshairs on showcasing a combination of resident DJ’s and unsigned local Leeds talent.

Founded back in January, Deep Fever can tenably be described as newcomers to the Leeds clubbing scene. Considering the extensive amount of genre-encompassing nights you can find in our city, I was interested to see what angle the minds behind the event were going to take, in order to make Deep Fever stand out from the crowd.

But by 11pm packs of party goers were piling onto the Musiquarium dancefloor. Greeted by a solid set of house and disco from Deep Fever residents Will Tuff and Chris I’anson, spirits were high and initial doubts for the night were quashed. This was probably down to the choice of venue for the night, which is worth a strong mention.

Having used The Musiquarium as their hunting ground to host the night in the past, it seemed a fantastic decision on behalf of the promoters to do so again for the opening party. Covertly tucked away in the north-western reaches of the city, the club/ warehouse has an eclectic  feel about it. The event organisers did a skilled job of dressing up the venue, with decorations that made Deep Fever feel like a hybrid between a club night and a  mate’s house party.

As the night continued and DJs poured on and off the decks, Deep Fever reached a climax as resident Will Eastlake dropped the Bontan remix/ Pleasurekraft edit of Josh Butlers, ‘Got A Feeling’. Butler being a Leeds native himself, it certainly heightened the sense of Deep Fever being a night that roots itself firmly in the Leeds clubbing scene.

At only £4 for an early-bird ticket and free watermelon on trays thrown in, the Deep Fever opening party established itself as a night that clearly has its guests in mind. Overall a successful mid-week night with a promising follow-up event on the 12th of November, as Deep Fever welcomes Portuguese DJ/ producer Trikk to the decks.
