Autumn Trend: Folk dresses

Autumn dresses are essential for the new season. With the Summer heat falling and the need to throw on a couple of layers it can be incredibly easy to switch from bright to beige. However, it is so easy to forget how colourful Autumn really is; with rich shades of red, orange, and yellow, Autumn really is the best season to follow naturfolkcpe’s footsteps.

Following the earthly colours and taking inspiration from nature, it is no surprise that folk fashion takes centre stage this year. Inspired by the harmony of natural colours and natural fabrics, folk is all about being cosy and humble.

Following the floaty folk-style maxi dresses that dominated 2015’s summer season, the Autumn trend has taken on a more Ukrainian twist with the use of details in embroidery and beading. Think Vyshyvanka by Vita Kin; a brand that has taken Instagram and fashion bloggers by storm.

To really go to town with this style take on the investment piece by French label Gat Rimon available on ASOS. Their embroidered black Folk dress offers a traditional Ukrainian silhouette and embroidery for a chic night out in a rich cotton blend. As well as this, Urban outfitters have a collection of One-of-a-Kind Indian Vintage 70’s dresses, which are perfect for replicating Man Repellers folk look.

Considering that the options above are a tad pricey for a student budget, Next offers a dress suitable for fall with more muted colours and a kinder price tag. Another choice – casual enough you can even wear it to University – is this dress from H&M with an aquatic colour scheme, a long tie and the perfect fit-flare style. Or try this Pom Pom Embellished dress from Urban Outfitters, more affordable with the relevant cut and a pretty print fit for daytime with some suede boots and a black felt fedora.

From L-R: Next Mono Print Folk Dress £38, H&M Crêpe dress £19.99, Urban Renewal Vintage Customised Pom Pom Embellished Natural Indian Dress with Bells £69

All these dresses will help you make the transition from Summer into Autumn without having to lose any colour. We know it’s not easy pulling off this style without looking dowdy or as if you’re the lead in a period drama but we think these options are perfect for a modern twist and would be ideal with your A/W boots and a suede or leather jacket.
