Having previously played out in the grand surroundings of Canal Mills and Beaverworks, The Heatwave bring their eclectic dancehall selection to Belgrave Music Hall this Saturday. Having caught them on previous occasions, I know that Hot Wuk will utilize this intimate space to be anything but, well, intimate.
Expect airhorns punctuating the riddims, whistles thrown into the crowd and more whines than your local supermarket could provide, all marshalled by their enigmatic front-man and MC Ben. Whilst Ben does a sterling job whipping up the crowd, his partner Gabriel holds everything together, chopping and mixing a selection of Bashment, Grime, Dancehall and Soca.
If you’ve never had the chance to catch them before, this is an opportunity too good to pass up. This is the first time in recent years they’ve brought their ‘Hot Wuk’ night to Leeds, which is the greatest example of their carnival ethos, a good-vibes only party. Pull up to their bumper this Saturday, your only regret will be the sore head you nurse the next morning.
