Blink returns to its home, Wire, on 6th December. Starting in Leeds just over 9 months ago, and drawing techno and house fans from all over the city, the night has already played host to some big names. The opening night back in February sold out quickly, and with Paleman headlining the night it was certainly a debut to remember. This time the promoters from Cambridge welcome Benton into the basement. Benton has been changing the game of dubstep over the last few years, and has recently created his own label, ‘BBS’, with Benny ill and Loefah. On the night, he will be bringing the freshest sounds in dubstep, jungle, house and more, with the support of some of Leeds’ best student talent.
I had the chance to talk to George Smith, one of the men behind Blink, about his experience putting on the night. Admitting himself that the Leeds clubbing scene is already “inundated with techno and house,” I asked him what makes Blink stand out. His response was that not enough nights “focus on breakbeaty type sounds, as well as your usually four to the floor stuff,” and so we can expect a real mix of music to take us through the night. When we discussed what to expect on Wednesday, it came through just how passionate about the night he was, saying that we should be ready for “a good crowd who are all into the music and are part of the scene” before adding:
“…also, bare Rum ‘N Ting.”
With an innovative line up, an intimate venue, and an involved crowd, it looks like Blink is gearing up to be a night to (at least try to) remember.
