Prepare yourselves to be transported by the magical sounds of Gamelan. On November 30th in Clothworkers Centenary Concert Hall, students from the School of Music will take the listener on a musical journey to the depths of Indonesia through the beautiful and meditative sounds of a Javanese percussion orchestra. A collection of traditional music and contemporary repertoire will be played, with the addition of pieces written by the ensemble for the concert in an attempt to combine eastern and western influences.
The repetitive and rhythmic nature of Gamelan makes it easy for the listener to fall into a trance-like state, the calming sounds of the instruments combined with its strong traditional and religious roots creating a truly authentic sound. From the shimmering, interlocking patterns of the instruments, to the traditional Javanese singing, this concert is really not one to miss and will be a perfect escape from the stresses of uni.
