Bleed Green! Leeds is Moving Up The Rankings
The University of Leeds remains in the top 100 of the QS World University Rankings for 2027, taking spot number 12.

The University of Leeds has risen nine places in the QS World University Rankings for 2027, arriving at joint 77th place with the University of Western Australia. Nationally, Leeds is now 12th in the UK, moving up from 13th place last year. Leeds has held its position in the top 100 for the 9th year in a row and sits at 24th place globally in terms of sustainability.
As well as this, the University has continued its ascension in the rankings in the Times Higher Education (THE), being listed at 113th place out of 2,297 universities in the world. Leeds has jumped 5 places in the THE ranking compared to last year, a clear reflection of the University’s continued improvements.
In both the QS and THE rankings, Leeds excelled in the international categories. As of the QS scores, Leeds scored 99.5 in the International Research Network (IRN), which measures an institution’s success in research partnerships across the world. As well as 91.5 for international student ratio and 93.1 for international faculty ratio. According to the THE ranking, Leeds’ highest score was in international outlook at 93.2.
Professor Shearer West, the Vice-Chancellor and President at the University of Leeds, stated that she was “particularly proud that our international research partnerships and commitment to sustainability are being recognised globally”, and that “everyone in our University community should feel proud of what we are achieving together”.
Leeds’ exceptional rankings in the global sector can be reflected in the international networks the University is part of, such as the Coimbra Group, the Cheney-Fellowship Scheme, and UK-Jiangsu (China) to name a few. As well as this, the University welcomes more than 14,400 international students from 173 different countries, creating a huge multicultural space.
The University rankings reflect more than just scores, it also celebrates and recognises the strong international community at Leeds, as well as the efforts the university goes to to support sustainability. Professor West noted that the rankings “only tell part of our story” and what matters most for students is that “Leeds provides an outstanding education, a supportive community and opportunities to make a positive difference in the world.”
