The annual Labour Party conference was held from 27 September to 30 September, in Liverpool. On 29 September, Andy Burnham made a speech outlining his ideas, plans and what he hopes is coming for the country moving forward. He stated that he believes Britain has been going down the wrong path for a long time and rallied for everyone to be “All Together Now.”

Here are 5 key takeaways from his speech:

1. There is priority about improving council housing to ensure people have a place to live. This is planned to be accomplished via using publicly owned unused land to build council housing over and reform currently empty houses for people to live in.

2. There will be focus on opening up home ownership to more people. This will be done by reducing the deposit required for your first home.

3. There are plans to add a strengthened water bill where private companies are held accountable to the public, where mayors will have new powers to hold them to power.

4. The Great British Grid will be introduced as a branch of the Great British Energy. This aims to bring energy, water and housing under public control and will challenge privatisation.

5. There will be a target to develop the National Care Service. This will be funded by a reformed version of the triple lock system in the next parliament term.

A study done by Persuasion UK highlights that there was a 24% increase in net positivity towards Burnham, after his speech at the conference.
