Leeds Bradford Airport has undergone some serious transformations over the past few years, and it doesn’t look like the end is in sight!

Until recently, passengers at Leeds Bradford Airport had to remove all liquids under 100ml from their bags, as well as their electronics, in order to pass through security. In 2024, this rule changed and passengers were able to keep their bags the way they packed them, something that passengers are no doubt relieved about.

The airport is opening a new Central Search Zone, in the hopes that it will make the screening process more efficient. This zone will have extra-long lanes, allowing around 600 passengers per hour in each lane to pass through security, nearly doubling what it was previously.

Within this new facility there will be a dynamic virtual queue management, enabling staff to better manage the flow of passengers and when in busy periods, reduce wait times.

The new Central Search Zone features six eGates for boarding passes to be scanned, another element designed to make the airport as efficient as possible.

Leeds Bradford Airport has ensured that there will be certain routes for passengers who may need to seek assistance, and those with Fast Track.

Security is the only part of the airport getting a makeover, the World Duty Free store is expanding by nearly twice the size. It will also see some new additions with selections of fragrances, spirits, skincare, and cosmetic brands, such as Charlotte Tilbury.

The Central Search Zone’s opening is one part of the airport’s long-term plan to improve in order to meet the demands of the growing population within this area. This new addition falls under the airport’s LBA:REGEN transformation project.

Leeds Bradford Airport’s CEO, Vincent Hodder, has described this new project as a “landmark moment”.

These changes are set to enhance the customer experience throughout the airport and make the process of jetting away smoother.
